National Co-coordinator/Development Worker Role

  • £25,200 freelance fee rate equivalent per annum 

  • 6 months contract with the aim to extend if further funding is secured 

  • The role has work from home and in-person delivery days

  • Location: throughout the Central Belt of Scotland as needed

Article 12 in Scotland is a registered SCIO NGO which delivers rights-based and non-formal learning to seldom -platformed young people, particularly young Gypsy/Travellers, throughout Scotland.  We offer flexible hours and fair-work and family friendly policies.

The role of Co-coordinator/Development Worker will involve three core elements: youth work design and delivery, operational administration, and representing the charity at meetings and events, including, but not limited to:

  • Design and delivery of programmes for young Gypsy/Travellers which will include engaging with young people and their families to build trust, developing individual learning plans, and delivering learning support with ongoing adaptation;

  • Operational administration of the organisation which will include regular email communication, assisting in collating and writing reports, and assisting in writing and interviewing for funding applications;

  • Representing the organisation at local and national levels: including meetings with our internal team, our partner organisations and other Third Sector organisations, local authorities and other public bodies, and local and national government. There will also occasionally be in-person promotional and networking events.

Relevant skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Driving licence and access to a car;

  • Comfortable with IT use: computing, word processing, emailing and video calls;

  • Experience and understanding of community learning and development approaches and underpinning principles;

  • Excellent advocacy and networking skills;

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and team-building skills

  • Research and report-writing skills, and the ability to interpret or present data;

  • Knowledge and understanding of community and social issues;

  • Experience working with young people, and/or experience working in educational support /teaching;

  • Confident and experienced public speaker and conference/events presenter;

  • Clear understanding of Human Rights and Equalities policies and practice.

Desirable:

  • experience working with the Gypsy/Traveller community or in other roles with a minority or Equalities protected group;

  • Relevant education and professional training qualifications;

  • Experience in writing funding applications;

  • Confident in website use (e.g uploading content);

  • Understanding of, and experience working with, boards of trustees and committees.

Relevant qualifications in youth/community work, education, or related fields would be extremely welcome, but we are open to considering applicants with relevant personal, volunteer, or work experience. Non-formal learning is a key part of our work so please do include any of your own achievements outside of a formal educational setting.
