Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month 2026

As Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month comes to a close, we take this opportunity to reflect on the stories shared, the conversations started, and the voices that have been heard.

This month has been a celebration of culture, heritage, resilience and community. It has also been a reminder that history is not only something we remember, it is something we continue to shape together. Across Scotland, we have seen young people, families, organisations and allies come together to challenge stereotypes, celebrate identity, and create spaces where lived experience is valued.

At Article 12 in Scotland, we are incredibly proud to stand alongside Gypsy, Roma and Traveller children, young people and communities. Their voices, experiences and aspirations continue to inspire our work and strengthen our commitment to ensuring that every child grows up knowing their rights, feeling heard, and having the opportunity to shape the decisions that affect their lives.

While History Month may be ending, our commitment does not. The work to tackle discrimination, promote understanding and build a more inclusive Scotland continues every day. Together, we will keep listening, learning and working in partnership to ensure that Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities are recognised - not only for their history, but for the invaluable contribution they make to Scotland today and for generations to come.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their stories, challenged prejudice, celebrated culture and stood in solidarity throughout this month. The conversations do not end here they are only just beginning.
